Sandra Senyo Fometu
Postdoctoral researcher
Pennsylvania State University
Sandra Senyo Fometu is a post-doctoral researcher at the crop abiotic stress research group, led by Prof. Ruairidh Sawers, in the plant science department at Pennsylvania State University. Her research is focused on understanding the benefits symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi in the soil can provide to corn (maize) in both greenhouse and research field plots, employing genetic, molecular biological and genomic techniques. In 2015, she received her Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in agriculture at the University of Ghana after she worked at the plant pathology division of the cocoa research institute of Ghana as a national service personnel, where she carried out black pod resistance experiments on cocoa, fungicide screening, field surveys, and inspection of infected cocoa pods. She has a master of Science (MSc) in biology and a doctoral degree in agronomy from Jiangsu University of Science and Technology in 2018 and 2021, respectively. Her postgraduate research focused on using molecular biology techniques to investigate the underlying scientific problems in agriculture and the environment. After her PhD research, she worked at the Biofuels Institute of Jiangsu University as a post-doctoral research associate (2021-2023), where she carried out gene expression, plasmid construction, and recombinant genetic engineering experiments.
